Same stuff, different media

I've told some of you that my Master's Thesis was on dogs - the modern dog as golem. I'm pretty consistent in my interests, I'm still working on the same project, in a way, with my breeding and training program.

At any rate, this was at the Ackland Art Museum at UNC-CH. The golems are life size solid unfired clay - I think maybe one of them still exists, but that's it. Speaks of the dog's dependence on human care. I had to transfer all of them to the site while leather hard and slightly wet to ensure they'd get there - completely dry unfired clay is Very fragile, and these weren't built for strength during firing.

Wherever you stood around the installation, there would be atleast one golem attentively focused on you, if not a whole crew of them, as in this picture.

Really, we've done a good job designing dogs, in general, as a species.
