Snake!
Oh so scary. Ring neck snake: Diadophis punctatus Since we'd seen smaller versions of this species, I thought this must be an adult, but from reading they get bigger. True to form - found in a planting bed, as was the itty bittier one last year.
The underside of this one was bright peach color, very very intense, with a dark mahogany top and yellow neck ring. Head was slightly darker than the body.
