Happy post herding sheltie got to work ducks this morning. Yesterday I had to go get the boy ducks, who were in the woods. Used Glinda, since there is nothing quite like working in the woods to teach a dog how to think. Took us a little while, but was so fascinating to watch her learn that ducks will hide in vines, require force to get out, and that it is worthwhile to take them through clear paths, even if narrow so that stops happening. She ignored the hecklers several feet from her on the other side of the fence (Brick, Rosa, Gonna, Kess, Whoopi). She ran wide and learned that careful placement makes up for trees being at balance, where the dog would prefer to be. Got them around through the woods, down the perimeter fence, out from under the truck, and back into the arena. Later we went to get the two tweener fawn and whites. Despite the presence of a gate two feet away from them, which she looked at and thought about, she took them, nearly be herself, along the tangled and toturous longer route she had first experienced earlier in the day. She had it nailed, all I could do was follow and keep the energy level appropriate. Such a Pow thing to do. At her age, not going to argue if she wants to test her knowledge and try out what she learned. :)
