Nearly every collie I have ever worked, including the 40 in a row at the Collie Rescue Reunion every year, does this. Part of it is their nurturing guardian kicking in, part simple curiosity, sometimes a way of hurrying the stock up for a dog that doesn't want to be rough and grip.
